After a Pew Research Center national survey indicated a high percentage of U.S. media consumers feel news media are biased, Reynolds School Dean Jerry Ceppos wrote a column for the San Jose Mercury News.

In the column, Ceppos argued that, with newspapers in decline, "it's way past time to listen to our critics — and, as my sixth-grade teacher used to say, to listen actively."

Ceppos' column was cited in Andrew Alexander's blog at The Washington Post Web site on Sept. 21.

Calling Ceppos "the respected former vice president for news of the late Knight Ridder newspaper group," Alexander quoted Ceppos urging newsrooms to do "a better job of understanding the claims of bias, especially from conservatives."
