Why I'm Dean:

It's easier to improve our professions at the front end, with students, than at the back end, with editing.

What I’ve learned:

Acknowledge when you've made a mistake, in journalism or in the rest of life. It's equally difficult to admit both kinds of mistakes.

Great journalism still can make a huge difference in people's lives.

That's one reason that no other profession is more fun.

The best stories often are staring you in the face.

Real wine experts know that price isn't necessarily an indicator of quality. That's worth remembering in other pursuits, too.
