Grad students present work

On May 16, RSJ graduate students presented projects that explore journalism's future. One project, BMP Talks by Kamila Pawlick, works to connect public officials and homeowners. Liz Margerum is at work on multimedia presentations that focus on poverty in the South Lake Tahoe area. Dan Sorensen plans to create a civic map of South Lake Tahoe's Latino community and Teri Vance is working on a citizen journalism project, Mi Cultura, with students at Incline High School.

Allan Warren presented his advertiser-supported Web site, Life More Natural, which offers "Green Rewards" to those who contribute content to the citizen journalism site. The idea, Warren said, is to get people interested in the great outdoors so that they begin to connect with nature and care about the environment.

"People don't seem to be paying attention anymore," he said. "We're finding ways to engage people that are interesting to them."
