Hats off to RSJ graduates

Best memory of j-school life? For RSJ graduating senior Monika Mala, that was spending the night at the journalism school during spring break--to get ready for the Integrated Marketing Communications competition. Staying up all night to work on the project. Laughing. Joking.

"I've never written better in my life than I did that morning at 4 a.m.," Mala said.

Mala, ASUN journalism senator, is one of 67 undergraduate students and five graduate students who received degrees May 17. She attended a reception for graduates on May 16 with her parents, Mahendra and Harish Tiwara. Graduates lined up outside the school in the sweltering afternoon sun for photographs and an inspiring talk from Paul Mitchell. Mitchell lauded students for their accomplishments and told them to stay in touch.

"So we can brag on you," he said.

Scott Oxarart had three lines shaved above each ear to represent the six years he spent in pursuit of a degree.

His favorite memory?

"I'd well up in tears if I had to divulge too much information," he said.
