Nico Colombant is a veteran foreign correspondent, multimedia short and long form storyteller and hyperlocal community website developer who joined the Reynolds School faculty in 2016.

Colombant coordinates the Reynolds Media Lab, which serves as a content production center of the Reynolds School, with both internal and external clients.  Services range from a student-produced podcast for UNR’s medical school to web video tutorials and mini documentaries promoting local organizations.

The Reynolds Media Lab also has a multimedia student publishing outlet, the Reynolds Sandbox.

Colombant also runs the Our Town Reno collective website which reports on issues of poverty, homelessness, the lack of affordable housing, gentrification, displacement and street art in the Biggest Little City. Our Town Reno produces Facebook and Instagram pages with regular content, a zine, web videos, audio stories and documentaries.

Colombant’s teaching interests include international and cross-cultural journalism, short and long form multimedia reporting, news writing, radio features, web video, and podcasting.

His documentary film work in progress or completed has dealt with issues ranging from lawlessness in Africa to the U.S. prison system, drone protesters in Nevada and Latino voters in Washoe County.

With 15 years experience as a multilingual international journalist, Colombant covered strife, civil wars, coups, failed elections, natural disasters and also positive stories from dozens of countries in Africa, Asia, the Americas and Europe in multiple media and languages for many news organizations.

Colombant holds a bachelor’s in journalism from Concordia University, Montreal, Canada, and an international relations master’s degree from the prestigious Institut d’Etudes Politiques in Paris, France.
