Mignon Fogarty joins Reynolds School faculty

The Donald W. Reynolds School of Journalism and Center for Advanced Media Studies at the University of Nevada, Reno has hired Mignon Fogarty as the Donald W. Reynolds Chair in Media Entrepreneurship. She begins her new role at the University on Monday, Aug. 25.

Fogarty, also known as Grammar Girl, has extensive professional entrepreneurial experience, expertise teaching writing to a diverse audience and a passion for helping students realize and achieve their educational goals.

“Mignon is a terrific addition to the Reynolds School faculty,” Dean Al Stavitsky said. “Her experience as an entrepreneur and educator will show our students the nexus of journalism, innovation and entrepreneurship.”

Fogarty has written seven books on language, including a New York Times bestseller, is the founder of Quick and Dirty Tips network – one of the earliest, largest and most successful podcasting networks, and has amassed and maintained a significant social media following, including 240,000 Twitter followers and 374,000 Facebook fans. Additionally, Fogarty has 383,000 followers in her Google+ circles.

Additionally, she has given 25 to 50 interviews per year to the media about language topics and entrepreneurship. She’s been interviewed or profiled on CNN.com, The Oprah Winfrey Show, Today Show, USA Today, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Reader’s Digest, Businessweek, NPR’s Talk of the Nation, Minnesota Public Radio, KPCC, the CBC and many other media outlets.

Fogarty holds a bachelor of arts degree in English from the University of Washington, Seattle, and a master of science degree from Stanford University.
