Spring class of 2018 rings in commencement with grad reception, words of wisdom

The University of Nevada, Reno’s spring class of 2018 made the transition from college students to alumni over the weekend. Of the 3,137 degrees conferred by the University, 94 were graduates of the Reynolds School of Journalism.

While the Reynolds School’s commencement ceremony took place on Saturday morning, the celebrations began on Friday with the spring 2018 graduation reception.

The graduation reception gave graduates an opportunity to sign the Reynolds School’s ethics pledge, mingle with their peers, family and faculty and celebrate their accomplishments. Grads also got to put their on-camera skills to use when Dean Al Stavitsky recorded the final scene for this semester’s recap video with the students in the background.

In keeping with tradition, the reception concluded with Dr. Paul Mitchell’s address to the 2018 grads.

“Young people, this is just the beginning,” Mitchell said. “I want you to think of yourselves as life-long learners. I want you to go out to wherever it is you’re going, and I want you to be thinking about what you need to do to get better. What are you going to be doing to build on your skillset. Think about that. Thank you so much for all of your time and all of your talent. We appreciate you.”
